Lancashire Belle

With a Song and a Smile

No matter the occasion, Lancashire Belle is the perfect accompaniment to your 1940s wartime-themed event. With her genuine passion and love of the songs, and her friendly and engaging persona, Jane will bring her experience and know-how to ensure your event is an outstanding success.

Jane sings all the popular songs of the time and is always on the lookout to add to her ever-growing repertoire. Requests are welcome!

Dressed for Duty

Jane could wear her khaki drill suit or her exact replica of Vera Lynn’s Barathea tunic and skirt (no military insignia other than the ENSA shoulder titles and badge).

ENSA performers were tasked with the responsibility of singing and entertaining the troops overseas, and to the nation back home. Their aim was to inspire and boost morale with uplifting songs.

Singing oh-so Seamlessly

Jane is not just a singer, she’s a seasoned performer. If the occasion calls for it, and she knows when, she’ll interact with the audience and may even get a few willing victims… er, volunteers to join her. All in the spirit of fun, of course!

If children want to, and with parents' permission, they can go up and join Jane for a spot of flag-waving. Jane will suit her songs and style to the occasion. And with her own sound man supporting her behind the scenes, her performances are always seamless!

Hit the Decks

Well the music ones that is. Jane can provide her own DJ to fill in with music in between her sets.

Seen here recently at Lytham 40s, the feedback on the music and dancing on the day was outstanding, sensational and lots more superlatives to describe the non-stop dancing.

Red Lipstick for Victory

Always performance-ready, Jane sings all the songs we know and love - and she looks the part too. With the demands of travelling, her original outfits tend to stay at home these days. However, you will find Jane in her authentic replica 1940s frock, complete with hat, subtle jewellery, seams and red lipstick, which was the order of the day - and of course would any lady of the time be seen without her gloves?

Jane uses an established vintage dressmaker, who uses dated original dress patterns to ensure authenticity in her outfits.  In between performances, you might see her taking it easy relaxing with a cuppa, in a tin mug of course, but is always approachable for a chat and willing to pose for a snap. Come and say hello!

A Sentimental Journey

My love of performing began with my very first solo at the age of six - Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree. Little did I know that a song written in 1932 would spark a life-long love of vintage music, and the 1940s in particular. I’ve always had a love of singing and performing, and along the way have managed to study drama and piano to Grade 8. I trained at RADA - and combined appearing in musical and theatrical productions with a career in travel.

I do love a good musical - and favourites range from any of the Fred & Ginger and Doris Day iconic Hollywood movies; not forgetting the exceptional talents of Judy Garland, performing alongside the likes of Mickey Rooney and Gene Kelly. Having parents who lived through the 1940s, sharing their stories with me, that only added to my love of the old, timeless classics. Fashion-wise, my outfits are influenced by a time when women were suffering hardship on the Home Front, yet knew how to look stylish.

A few years living in New York revitalised my love of the Great American Songbook. My favourite songs include I Won't Dance, Just the Way You Look Tonight, April Showers - but really there are so many! I like to perform songs which I consider are timeless classics and which feature in my vast (and ever-growing!) repertoire of 1940s songs.

I hope to catch you at an event soon!
